Pradosham Vrat 2020: According to the Hindu Calendar, Pradosham occurs bi-monthly on the 13th day of every fortnight. Devotees particularly consider this as auspicious to worship Mahadev.
In simple terms, Pradosham or Pradosh translates to removing or being free of sins. Therefore, the Trayodashi Tithis – Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi hold a great significance in the Hindu calendar. The famous story of Lord Shiva drinking poison from a river to save the world is the reason behind celebrating by keeping Pradosh vrat.

Soma Pradosham is when Pradosham falls on a Monday and Bhauma Pradosh when it occurs on a Tuesday.
Learned men consider Pradosham as holy to perform Puja and take blessings of God.

Devotees mark this day by worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Fasting on this day is significant to free one from their sins and get what they desire.
Particularly, there are two important ways one can choose to fast on this pious day. Firstly, you either keep a 24-hour fast without sleeping in the night or fast from sunrise till sunset.
Secondly, you can worship the Shivling and chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra 108 times. Then, light a single lamp in the period. Take a bath and keep a fast before sunrise. After that, end the day by worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
